Kamal Ghali and Sachin Varghese Join Bondurant Partnership

As of January 1, 2021, Kamal Ghali and Sachin Varghese have been named partners at Atlanta-based law firm Bondurant Mixson & Elmore.

Kamal Ghali represents clients in government investigations and enforcement actions; federal criminal prosecutions; and complex civil litigation involving allegations of fraud, racketeering (RICO), and other misconduct. He is a former U.S. Department of Justice white-collar and cybercrime prosecutor, a former deputy chief at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta, and he leads Bondurant’s White-Collar Criminal Defense and Cyber & Digital Litigation practices. He is an experienced trial lawyer, with substantial first-chair experience in high-stakes federal jury trials. His trial experience ranges from first-chairing a complex multi-defendant, multi-week corruption trial in Atlanta to representing a major airline carrier in an arbitration involving claims worth hundreds of millions of dollars before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. As a federal prosecutor, he won numerous awards and commendations for his work on high-profile and complex matters including from the FBI Director, the Deputy Attorney General (DOJ Director’s Award), and the U.S. Attorney in Atlanta. He originally joined Bondurant as an associate after clerking for the Hon. Thomas W. Thrash, Jr., U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and the Hon. Frank M. Hull, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He rejoined Bondurant in 2019 after serving as a federal prosecutor for six years. He earned his B.A. from Emory University and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.

Sachin Varghese primarily represents plaintiffs in complex trial and appellate litigation, including victims of criminal conduct and whistleblowers, and has helped plaintiffs recover more than $300 million dollars. He has extensive experience pursuing state and federal RICO claims. Sachin also represents defendants in business disputes, including obtaining a complete defense verdict following trial. Additionally, Sachin serves as General Counsel for the Democratic Party of Georgia. While at BME, he has represented numerous pro bono clients and has been active in the community, including serving on the boards of multiple nonprofits. Sachin was recently recognized as one of the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 under Forty. Sachin joined Bondurant in 2011 after clerking for the Hon. Richard W. Story on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He earned his B.A., M.P.A., and J.D. from the University of Georgia.
